- We opened under the name "Rowan Computer Guys" in 2010. Over the years we grew to offer much more than just computer services and started offering more and more services to businesses along with our residential customers. We rebranded to the name Baxter Consultants in 2021. We look forward to many more years supporting Rowan county and the surrounding area. Where does the name Baxter come from? Baxter is a family name for James Howell and his wife, Elizabeth. James' grandfather was James Baxter Howell, better known as "Big Jim." Big Jim sold tools for years under the name "Baxter Tools" at a local flea market in Lexington, NC. Elizabeth's great-uncle is named Baxter. Her great-grandfather was also named Baxter.
