After a free 30-minute consultation, a retainer is optional and services are billed hourly at $200 - 250 / hr. Ballpark figures: Utility patent app. $4-6K, design patent app. $2 - 3K, trademark app. $1 - 2K, full business establishment or dissolution $2K.
I will talk you through the obstacles to IP registration and will not ask you to commit to each step until I advise you of my confidence. My patent portfolio includes design patents and utility patents for household gadgets and appliances. I am registered with the US Patent and Trademark Office, and I handle the international stage of foreign PCT patent applications. As a small business owner myself, I am experienced with the legal legwork of getting a small business up and running. Starting a business involves sizable start-up expenses, but my advice is, "Do it once and do it right!" Although I prefer to consult with my clients in person if possible, I conduct nearly all of my case work alone or remotely. As a practical matter, I can service clients globally.

Since then, his practice has broadened to trademarks, corporate and LLC setup / dissolution, NDAs, and employment visas. The Law Office of Scot S. Fagerland, PC, a California professional corporation, has been conducting business in LA since 2016. The office was closed to foot traffic for over a year during the COVID pandemic, with no ill effect. The office is now fully equipped to handle all business remotely, so calls are welcome from around the world! In 2022, the main office moved to Solano County to bring Scot "closer to loved ones and farther from competition." All new clients are encouraged to visit the office at least once if possible.
