Nick Slavik is the proprietor of Nick Slavik Painting & Restoration Co., which will be celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. The company employs more than 35 people and has a leadership team and a full-scale finishing shop.
Nick served in the Army as a mechanic and paratrooper, and after the events of September 11th, 2001, he volunteered for two tours of duty overseas: Afghanistan and Iraq. He then attended college, graduating with a bachelor's degree in business management and double minors in tax accounting and managerial accounting.
Nick and his wife Tootse have four children. Recently, they sold their fully restored 1917 Craftsman home and built a new, energy-efficient house on their farm. They are using the new house as a proving ground for the latest, most innovative finishing procedures.
Nick has been a craftsman for 28 years and his company has earned more than 15 national awards for craftsmanship in the past five years. These include massive restorations of Victorian mansions. He also created an apprenticeship program, where he identifies, trains, motivates and mentors young people in the craft.
