- Robert Platt originated the company in 1955 as Robert Platt & Associates. After his son Architect Lee Platt unexpectedly passed in 1990, ownership of the firm transferred to Alison Whitelaw. In 1992, the firm name officially changed to Platt/Whitelaw Architects, Inc. to honor the historical San Diego connection and the sustainable vision of Alison Whitelaw, FAIA. Naveen Waney, AIA and Sandra Gramley, AIA, were added as Principals in 2010, and purchased the business in 2019. Alison Whitelaw retired in January of 2020.
