- Bluff Lake Nature Center (BLNC) is a nonprofit organization that was established in 1994 to provide stewardship for and educational programs at Bluff Lake, a 123 acre property along Sand Creek and adjacent to the eastern edge of the Stapleton development. The site is currently the largest privately-owned open space in Denver and it has a variety of native habitats including a seasonal lake, wetlands, short-grass prairie, a riparian zone and wetland woodland. Thanks to the diversity of habitat and a 60 year history as a buffer zone for Stapleton International Airport, the site is an urban wildlife refuge for waterfowl, raptors, songbirds, deer, coyotes, prairie dogs, beaver, reptiles, amphibians and many other animals that visit or live at the site.
