Ultrasonic cleaning is a method of cleaning delicate parts with the use of high frequency sound waves. These sound waves are transmitted through a liquid cleaning solution and create alternating areas of positive and negative pressure known as cavitation bubbles. These bubbles are extremely small and can reach into areas that could not be accessed with a brush or other methods.

The benefits of ultrasonic cleaning are immense, as it will NOT DAMAGE delicate parts. In general, frequencies above 18,000 cycles per second are considered to be ultrasonic. As these sound waves travel through the liquid, they create areas of compression and rarefaction which cause the liquid to be literally torn apart. When this happens, a microscopic void is created known as a cavitation bubble.

This bubble is an area of vacuum within the body of the liquid and is very unstable, creating a phenomenon similar to a thunderclap on a small scale. This creates minute areas of high pressure which break down the surface boundary layer and improve the chemical cleaning action.
