- With no money and no workshop, Sara Banks built her first shelving unit, made to fit the exact dimensions of her Manhattan Mini Storage unit on South Street, out of necessity. She had acquired scrap lumber from a friend and borrowed space from an East Village theater to assemble the piece. When she showed pictures of the finished product to another interested friend, she became inundated with requests for custom carpentry projects. In 2010, Sara attended the blue collar prep program at NEW (Non-traditional Employment for Women). There, she refined her craft and began her venture into professional carpentry. Now with a workshop in the East Village, Sara continues to improve and transform apartments, offices and retail stores. She proudly creates lifestyle solutions from the furniture New Yorkers throw out every day.
