- In the wake of the Cedar Fire of 2003 while working as a wildland fire prevention foreman contracted by SDG&E, I saw first hand on a large scale the consequences of unmitigated fire fuels (Vegetation) on our suburban and rural communities. My thoughts were that there was more meaningful work I could be involved in. Soon thereafter my focus was on helping residents to be fire smart and implement fire safety strategies by reducing removing the flammable vegetation surrounding their home, building fire breaks and encouraging people in these vulnerable areas to develop escape plans and fire preparedness.
