- The LBC was formed as a nonprofit organization in March of 2011 after years of planning by several Atlanta community members. The LBC retail operation opened in October 2011 and has actively engaged with the surrounding community, which includes the Adair Park, West End, and Capitol View neighborhoods. Currently, the LBC has 2 full-time staff members, 2 part-time staff members, and one intern. So far, the LBC has kept over 175,000 pounds of reusable material out of the landfill, completed 20 deconstruction projects, provided more than 30 free waste audits, and recruited over 370 volunteers. The LBC's efforts have also resulted in over $580,000 in costs savings to the Atlanta community through the sale of deeply discounted building materials and by donating materials to nonprofits.
