- "The Highland Building was the second-to-last of legendary architect Daniel Hudson Burnham's 16 Pittsburgh commissions. Burnham is most famous for his pioneering designs for Chicago skyscrapers and his work as consulting architect of the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893. He also designed many of Pittsburgh's most famous buildings, including Union Station (now The Pennsylvanian), the Frick Building and the Henry W. Oliver Building. The Highland Building was ready to welcome the public on May 1, 1910. The building's initial tenants included physicians, dentists, an osteopath, two dressmakers, a milliner, manicurist and a fifth-floor barber shop. In 2011, the Young Preservationists Association named the Highland Building number three on its annual Top Ten list of best preservation opportunities in the Pittsburgh area."
