About the Business

Since 1997, Plan-it Earth Design has been collaborating with homeowners to design outdoor spaces that connect people with nature. Our gardens are designed with native and companion plants, edibles, and easy-care plants, which provides color, texture, and fragrance that enlivens the senses.

Let us create a functional garden space for you to enjoy dining and entertaining outdoors. We can organize your space so that it flows effortlessly between practical elements such as paths and your garden hose.

We also specialize in rain gardens! Learn how you can save money on your stormwater bills and help salmon by having us locate and design a beautiful garden for your disconnected downspout. This will also be a great way to attract wildlife near your front door.

Our garden coaching services are also available to help you learn easy pruning techniques, garden sustainably, and arrange plants in an artistic way. We can provide shopping assistance with a designer, so you don't feel overwhelmed by the possibilities. Let us build a team to install the perfect garden for you to live in.

  • An early career as an Interior Plantscaper designing and caring for plants in homes, offices, atriums and retail shops, lead to an expansion into backyard edibles, then to Floral Decorating for parties and events on the East Coast. Transplanted to Portland in 1991, classes at PCC's Landscape Technology Department included classes in design, drafting and plant identification. 6 years at Tsugawa Nursery in Woodland, Wa. in Sales, Design and Nursery Merchandising taught this designer to think on her feet and Design-on-the-Fly for customers seeking solutions. It also brought a deep knowledge of plant varieties, their attributes and care, as well as an opportunity to learn about and practice Japanese Garden Design principles in the context of the Pacific Northwest. Amy has developed strong relationships with artisans and craftspeople in the landscape trades. She brings this team to her clients where she works collaboratively with them to expand their vision and improve their view.
