Missouri residents and businesses impacted by recent severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes, and flooding will receive special tax relief measures from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The affected areas include the city of St. Louis along with Scott and St. Louis counties.

The IRS has extended tax filing and payment deadlines for victims to November 3, 2025. This relief applies to individual and business tax returns, estimated tax payments, and contributions to Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) that would normally be due in 2024.

Specifically, the postponed deadlines include quarterly estimated tax payments originally due on June 16, 2025, and September 15, 2025. Penalties on payroll and excise tax deposits due between May 16, 2025, and June 2, 2025, will be waived if deposits are made by June 2, 2025. Affected businesses also receive extensions for filing quarterly payroll and excise tax returns due on July 31, 2025, and October 31, 2025.

Taxpayers who receive late filing or payment penalty notices from the IRS should call the number on the notice if their original filing, payment, or deposit deadline falls within the postponement period. The IRS has automatically identified taxpayers located in the disaster area, but those who live or operate businesses outside the designated zones must call the IRS disaster hotline at 866-562-5227 to request relief.

This tax relief initiative provides crucial financial support to Missouri residents and businesses recovering from natural disasters, demonstrating the government's commitment to effective disaster response measures. Affected parties are encouraged to take advantage of these provisions to minimize the economic impact of the recent severe weather events.
