Located close to the MAX Light Rail line, the 20,000-square-foot building has been a local landmark since 1971. Visitors can take in the sights of a northwest forest from above, as well as learn about the challenges and opportunities of this important natural resource. The museum invites visitors to discover how forests shape our everyday lives, and encourages all to appreciate the value of this critical natural resource.
The Discovery Museum at the World Forestry Center offers a range of interactive exhibits and programs which aim to help visitors understand the importance of forests. There are many ways to engage with the forested environment, such as tree-related activities, forest ecology classes, and outdoor experiences. In addition, the Center provides educational films, lectures, and other special events that offer a deeper understanding of forest conservation and sustainability.

- Located in Portland, Oregon, USA, the roots of World Forestry Center date back to the 1905 Lewis and Clark Exposition in which a massive log structure was built to house the Forestry Building. This giant "log cabin" was constructed with whole diameter logs on the scale of the Parthenon in Greece and served as a showcase of the timber industry until it was lost in a fire in 1964. Soon after the fire, Portland's Mayor gathered civic leaders to rebuild the Forestry Building as the Western Forestry Center, and the city identified a new location near the burgeoning Oregon Zoo, located in Washington Park. Donors contributed to construct the new Forestry Museum and a theater (now called Cheatham Hall), which opened in 1971. Miller Hall and Magness Memorial Tree Farm were added a few years later.
