About the Business
Liberty Hall Museum at Kean University is the home of New Jersey's first elected governor and signer of the Constitution, William Livingston. Built in 1772, the museum has grown from a 14-room Georgian Style home to a 50-room Victorian-style mansion that houses extensive collections of antiques, furniture, ceramics, textiles, toys, tools and more that have been owned by seven generations of Livingston and Kean families. The site offers visitors an opportunity to learn about the history of the families and how they have contributed to the changing nation with governors, congressmen, senators, entrepreneurs and pioneering women.
At Liberty Hall Museum, visitors can explore the living past and discover stories passed down from generation to generation. Through guided tours, special exhibitions and educational programs, visitors will gain a deeper appreciation for the rich history and culture of the Livingston and Kean families.

- The last member of the Kean family to live in Liberty Hall was Mary Alice Kean, aunt of Governor Thomas Kean, who died in 1995. Liberty Hall operated as a private museum from 2000 to 2007, and then merged with Kean University.
