About the Business
The Greater Kansas City Housing Information Center is a non-profit organization with the mission of ensuring that everyone in the Kansas City metropolitan area has access to safe, decent, and affordable housing. Since 1970, they have been providing free housing counseling services to individuals, families, homeowners, renters, and others in need. They can offer advice on buying or renting a home, foreclosed homes, financial counseling, budget counseling, and landlord-tenant issues.
If a homeowner is at risk of foreclosure or eviction, counselors will work with the mortgage company to come up with a solution. When someone contacts them for assistance, they will set up an appointment and advise them on the necessary information to bring. Walk-ins are not encouraged as they usually do not have all the required documents. Exceptions are made if eviction or foreclosure is immediate.
