About the Business

Our museum tells the tale of Memphis' origin. Through appealing displays, visitors can comprehend our city's development and how the art, history, and music that are so integral to our culture developed from the mixture of people who first arrived here due to the cotton industry.

The primary exhibition is situated on the Historic trading floor of the Memphis Cotton Exchange - a place where cotton traders once dominated the international cotton economy. This grand area is now filled with remarkable artifacts and exhibits that explain the story of "King Cotton" and its effect on the world. Among them are original films describing particular parts of the cotton industry, stories from people involved, and electrifying temporary displays.

To gain the most out of our museum, visitors are encouraged to plan for an hour or two. Therefore, the last admission is one hour before closing. Come to The Cotton Museum at the Memphis Cotton Exchange to experience this captivating journey through time!

Publisher Info

  • The museum was founded to preserve the history of this worldwide market place and to tell the epic story of the famed cash crop and its profound influence on the city of Memphis and, in fact, America's history and culture at large. Since opening its doors, the Cotton Museum has attracted nearly 100,000 visitors - mostly tourists - from across the country and around the world. Our mission is to share the story of the cotton and the influences of the people that were gathered here around the industry not only with a growing international audience, but with Memphis area residents- especially our city's youth.
