                            SOMArts
Founded in 1979, SOMArts leverages the power of art as a tool for social change through multi-disciplinary events and exhibitions. SOMArts annually produces 10 visual art exhibitions featuring approximately 200 emerging and experimental Bay Area artists in our Main Gallery. Since 2010, the SOMArts Curatorial Residency has supported over 20 multidisciplinary exhibitions curated by over 50 Bay Area artists. Our Día de los Muertos exhibition, founded by Chicano visionary René Yañez and curated by his son Rio Yañez, annually features 60+ artists uplifting diverse cultural and spiritual traditions associated with mourning. Through our year-long calendar of creative programs, SOMArts reaches over 25,000 Bay Area residents every year, providing multiple opportunities to experience the arts through or low-cost events at a time when small and mid-sized cultural venues are rapidly disappearing in the Bay Area.
