John Dusek was a family man, tavern owner and promoter of the arts who had a vision to create an establishment for the community at the turn of the century. His dream became reality in 1892 with the construction of Thalia Hall, a multi-purpose building offering commercial spaces, residential housing, and a public hall. Its design was inspired by the Prague Opera House and it was well known as one of the most ornate theaters of its time. In 1985, Thalia Hall was granted landmark status. The hall ceased to be open to the public in the 1960s and remained virtually untouched until 2013 when restoration work began. In order to bring life back to this Chicago treasure, the original charm and character was restored to host music events, community activities, and artistic performances in Pilsen.
