More Than Words
More Than Words (MTW) is an organization that empowers young people who are part of the foster care, court-involved, homeless, or out of school populations to take control of their lives by taking charge of a business. The organization believes that, with enough responsibility and support, these youth can overcome any personal obstacles they may face and become important members of society. MTW began in 2004 as an online bookselling training program for those in DCF custody. In 2005, they opened their first bookstore in Waltham, MA, followed by the addition of a Starbucks coffee bar in 2008. They replicated this model in Boston's South End in 2011, allowing them to serve double the amount of youth annually. In September 2018, MTW expanded their South End location. This allowed them to hire more young people, display a larger variety of books, host events in their dedicated space, and sell items created by other social enterprises from around the country.

p:ear
Portland's coffee culture is a great way for homeless and transitional youth to be involved, and p:ear is providing them the opportunity with an eight week training program in partnership with Nossa Familia Coffee. Participants in the program learn the art and science of coffee from bean sourcing to milk textures, as well as customer service and basic money management. The program builds the youth's self-confidence and resumes, and provides them with consistent and ongoing mentorship. The Trim/Vojdani Gallery at p:ear is part of an innovative art program for homeless and transitional youth, featuring 10 annual art shows and six shows in the community. These events give p:ear youth the chance to engage with around 2,500 art enthusiasts each year. Additionally, they receive tickets to local arts organizations where they can experience different types of art, improving their skills and preparing them to become part of the next generation of arts makers and patrons.

Ashbury Images
Ashbury Images in San Francisco provides quality screen printed and embroidered apparel and custom-designed promotional products. 100% of proceeds fund employing and supporting at-risk youth. Ashbury Images began as a vocational job training program in the basement of our homeless drop-in center in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco. Ashbury Images rebuilds lives one shirt at a time by providing paid employment, job training, and supportive services to at-risk youth recovering from poverty, substance abuse and homelessness. We started tshirt printing for local businesses and nonprofit agencies and quickly became one of the fastest growing screen printing and embroidery shops in San Francisco. Our screen printing business quickly outgrew the basement of the Oak Street House, and in 1991, we moved to a rented storefront on Ashbury Street, taking the name Ashbury Images. In 1998, we moved into a 3,000-square foot facility and purchased our first automatic press, and in 2007, we moved Ashbury Images to a brand new 11,300-square foot facility at 1661 Tennessee in the Dogpatch neighborhood of Bayview. Our new "grande auto" 14-color press brings our total production capacity to over a million prints a year on a single shift.
