Premier Credit Union has deep roots, beginning on September 11, 1933 as Bankers Life Employees Credit Union. The purpose was to promote savings and offer affordable loans to its members - those employed by Bankers Life Company and their families. In 1986, when Bankers Life Company changed its name to Principal Financial Group, the credit union followed suit and changed its own name to Principal Financial Group Employees Credit Union.
