About the Business

The Empress of Little Rock is an award-winning, historic boutique hotel that underwent a loving restoration in 1995. Its aim was to evoke a romantic atmosphere while still catering to the needs of modern travelers, business people, and brides. It has been rated the fourth most romantic hotel in the United States.

From the moment you step into the grand sitting parlor, to the time spent lounging in the Moonlight Secret Garden listening to the gentle flow of the vintage quartz fountain, a stay at The Empress will leave a lasting impression.

Every guest suite at The Empress offers a unique blend of romance and nostalgia with all the privacy and amenities you would expect from a luxury hotel. Breakfast is served in the formal dining room, with silver service, a bow-tied butler, and relaxed conversation. You can be sure of a warm welcome here.

The Empress is the perfect destination for a romantic getaway, business travel, corporate retreats, or a dream wedding. You won't be disappointed!

  • Dubbed the "Grand Dame of the Ozarks", The Empress of Little Rock was opened as a way to save the most elaborate Gothic Queen Anne Victorian mansion in a 4 or 5 state region. Known for its elegance, attention to detail, and service, the Empress (Hornibrook Mansion) was completed in 1888 at the exorbitant cost of $20,000 and used exclusively Arkansas materials. Designed by Max Orlopp and Kasper Kusener, it has been described in the National register of Historic Places as the best example of ornate Victorian Architecture in Arkansas. Until the total renovation completed in 1995, the mansion served as a women's college, a nursing home, and a halfway house and apartments. The estate had been broken up and sold as different parcels. From 1993-1998 the entire estate was returned to one owner and restored. It's owners were named the SBA Small Business Owners of the Year in 2009 for their contribution to business leadership, community and historic preservation.
