p:ear
Portland's coffee culture is a great way for homeless and transitional youth to be involved, and p:ear is providing them the opportunity with an eight week training program in partnership with Nossa Familia Coffee. Participants in the program learn the art and science of coffee from bean sourcing to milk textures, as well as customer service and basic money management. The program builds the youth's self-confidence and resumes, and provides them with consistent and ongoing mentorship. The Trim/Vojdani Gallery at p:ear is part of an innovative art program for homeless and transitional youth, featuring 10 annual art shows and six shows in the community. These events give p:ear youth the chance to engage with around 2,500 art enthusiasts each year. Additionally, they receive tickets to local arts organizations where they can experience different types of art, improving their skills and preparing them to become part of the next generation of arts makers and patrons.
My Gym
My Gym provides physical learning programs for children from 6 months old. Our activities are designed to build confidence, self-esteem and physical development. Programs include songs, games, relays, tumbling, sports skill training, gymnastics, Karate and Dance classes. Our Martial Arts classes are fun and fitness-focused, with kicking, punching, blocking, stretching and running. Our Dance Program is available for ages 3 and up. Birthday parties are also available on weekends, featuring 1.5 hours of games, relays and puppet shows. Dance Exchange in Takoma Park, MD offers easily accessible, affordable studio space for rent on a daily basis and runs weekly dance classes suitable for all ages. Our three well-lit studios have marley floors and stereo equipment, making them perfect for dance, yoga, music, meditation, martial arts, or any other creative movement classes, rehearsals, workshops, meetings, team building activities, and community events. Located just two and a half blocks from the Takoma Metro station on the Red Line and conveniently served by multiple MetroBus and RideOn bus lines, Dance Exchange also provides its own parking lot for renters and class attendees as well as ample street parking nearby. The public is welcome to drop in to our regular classes which run weekly from September to June.
