P A Bowen Farmstead has one of only three raw cheese permits in the state of Maryland. With a great emphasis on producing a quality product, the farm maintains their pastures and feeding program, carefully milks the cows, and handles the milk gently to create artisan cheese. This cheese, which is naturally yellow due to carotene levels, is high in fat-soluble vitamins A, D and K. P A Bowen Farmstead's cheddar won second place at the American Cheese Society Conference in 2013, and their blue cheese is smooth and nutty. In addition, they also produce aged jack cheese and a unique Dreamy Creamy variety.
The farm also produces some of the best pork, chicken, and eggs on the East Coast. The pigs receive whey from cheesemaking and a grain mix that is non-corn, non-soy and non-GMO. The chickens are also fed the same grain mix, leading to egg yolks that are bright orange!

- Owners Geofrey Morell and Sally Fallon Morell purchased the property in 2009, built the milking parlor and cheese facility in 2010, and opened the store for business in November 2011. Our efforts have focused on restoring the pasture fertility through managed intensive grazing. We use no pesticides, herbicides, hormones or antibiotics on the farm.
