About the Business

The Engineer's Club of Baltimore is a private membership club situated in the heart of the Mount Vernon Cultural District. It is housed in a magnificent mansion built in the style of the wealthy elite of the era of industrial magnates, bankers, and railroad tycoons. Those who enter the building are presented with 40 rooms and 100 windows, designed by John Russell Pope and Stanford White.

The Club provides top-notch service and accommodations for its members and guests. It is the ideal venue for weddings, anniversaries, engagements, rehearsal dinners, bar mitzvahs and bat mitzvahs. Lunch and dinner are provided Tuesday through Friday, with a delicious champagne brunch available on the weekends. The Club also regularly hosts special events throughout the year, with holiday parties being a particular highlight.

Those interested in learning more about membership are invited to inquire.

  • The Engineers Club was founded in 1905 one year after the great fire of Baltimore. Alfred Quick, City Water Engineer, brought fellow engineers together to rebuild the city. In 1961, the Club began to offer membership to all professionals and women. That year, they moved into the Garrett-Jacobs Mansion at 11 West Mount Vernon Place in the Mount Vernon District which they purchased the following year from the City of Baltimore. The Mansion was to be torn down and Baltimore Heritage and the Club saved it from destruction by campaigning against the bond bill to expand the Walters Art Museum. More than 50 years later, the Club has invested over $6 million in the building's restoration and preservation along with its partner the Garrett-Jacobs Mansion Endowment Fund. The Club also has an education foundation that awards low-cost loans and scholarships to seniors graduating from a Maryland High School which are based on scholastic achievement.
