The Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center is a unique 52,000 square foot facility dedicated to providing cultural activities and experiences for the entire family. Located in the historic Walter Reed School, the center was restored and opened to the public in October 2008. It features the Ella Fitzgerald Theater, Youth Programming floor, Anderson Johnson Gallery, Newport News Community Gallery, banquet room, multipurpose room, and Executive boardroom. The Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center provides a variety of and paid events each month, such as concerts, plays, dance performances, movies, children's programming and instruction. Queen Bee's Art & Cultural Center is an incredible place in North Park that is devoted to supporting local artists, dancers, performers, and all members of the San Diego Community! Every week there are a number of different events. On Sunday nights, there are Bachata and Salsa lessons and dances from 7:30 PM till midnight. Monday night is Soulercize - Soul Line Dance Class. Tuesday night is Lyrical Exchange - Weekly Open Mic Night from 8:00 till 11:00. Wednesday night is East Coast Swing Dance Lessons and Dance 7:30 till Midnight. Finally, on Thursdays, there is Elevated Poetry Open Mic (on the first and third Thursdays). Queen Bee's is also available for private parties and corporate events.
